Wow! I can’t believe it’s
been two weeks! I’m leaving Vermont to head to Boston, as Carol is going off to
a conference in Alabama this weekend, I thought I’d get out of her way for
that. It’s been a marvelous stay in Vermont, and I can’t thank Carol and Mike enough
for putting up with a teenager in the house for two weeks. I loved getting a
feel for the way of life in Vermont. It’s really different than home. Vermont
is very focused on preserving their environment and habitat. They are against
big companies coming in an taking over and would much rather have their ‘Mom
and Pop’ shops than box stores and chains. I love that way of thinking.
Everyone helping out their neighbors instead of putting themselves first in
everything.
The food is different as
well. There are a lot more organic options, and they’re easier and cheaper to
find than at home (not that I have to eat organic all the time, but it is nice
to have options). Instead of grocery stores most towns have a Co-op, where they
get a lot of their food from local farms and whatnot. You also see a lot more
gardening than at home. At Carol’s we were always having fresh veggies from the
garden with our meals.
In Vermont it’s really
all about enjoying nature, and you see a lot more people outside doing
activities like hiking and enjoying the world they live in. I’m really happy I
got a chance to see that in my stay, and that I got to do it as well. I really
loved hiking with Carol.. even though I’m not in the best shape and was sore
for a couple of days. A HUGE thanks to Carol and Mike for showing me the
wonders of Vermont and giving me a place to stay and great company (and feeding
me and driving me everywhere and countless other sacrifices they had to make
while I invaded their house).
Next stop; Boston!
Jen, sometimes i'm just so proud of you, i don't know what else to say
