First: Biking.
Yesterday afternoon Carol and I went biking. We started off by heading towards Marshfield (2 miles) down the highway. Decent sized shoulder but a bit of traffic. As we got into town we went along to an old railway bed that we had heard was nice for riding bikes. This was true... for the first few miles. It was dirt, but still pretty nice. After a while the trail started to get a little rockier, and at one point after five or so miles, half of it was rutted out by water and the other half was full of rocks and bumps. It was during this that I hit a rock and was jolted into my handlebars, leaving two decent sized scrapes on my thighs. (which have now bruised..) So we road the rest of the way to Plainfield, and since Carol live in between the two, we decided to take the road the five miles back to the house, and by then it was suppertime, so we decided to call it quits for the day.
Second: Waterfalls.
After breakfast this morning we decided to go up past Stowe (where I previously biked), and see the Moss Glen Falls. It was about a five minute walk in to see the falls, which were really pretty. We walked up and saw them from above, and then walked down and jumped around from rock to rock down below. We decided not to go swimming due to the fact that the water was freezing. So after we took in the beauty of mother nature, we decided to head to Lake Champlain.
Third: Hitchhikers.
So we jumped on the road from the falls and drove through Smuggler's Notch, a scenic highway through a mountain valley. Driving through you're surrounded by trees and you can see the rock cliffs. So as soon as we got out of the notch we came across a hitchhiker, and Carol decided to see where he was going. It ended up that he was a biker who had a flat tire and was headed in the direction we were going so we gave him a ride. He (Russell) was very nice, and very happy for the ride. Well, I didn't get killed by the first hitchhiker I picked up, so that's a good thing right? :)
Fourth: Lakes.
We made our way to Lake Champlain and out on a beach. Neither one of us wanted to change into our swimsuit, so I just rolled up my jeans (Carol was in shorts) and we waded in the water. It was really shallow, but really warm, and we just stood there for a while watching the boats go by.
Finally: Unicycles.
Once we got tired of standing in the water, we decided to go to the local park. Carol had thrown Mike's unicycle into the trunk.. I'm still not sure why they have a unicycle, but man is it fun!
We spent an hour riding around the tennis court on the unicycle, but neither one of us could go very far without holding the other's hand for support. We did get a lot better as we went though. At the beginning we could only go a few feet at a time, but by the end we could each go around the entire court without falling. It was a blast. I would have gotten a picture, but every time I was on the unicycle Carol was holding my hand.. and that makes picture taking a bit difficult.
My fav pic to date: Jen and the Waterfall. Lookin like you've slimmed down a little, probably hard to find a good meal when you're living with hippies ~ lots of tofu, bean sprouts, kale and goat cheese laying around.....
ReplyDeleteThanks! I haven't really noticed weight change, but its nice to be eating good healthy food. Hard to cook unhealthy when you're trying to use up the veggies from the garden.
