More colleges!
Lesley University was really nice but I'll be honest, it didn't really jump out at me as much as Emmanuel and Simmons.
We (Peg and I) went to the Lesley University to their open house. It was well organized and informative. Plus they had free food!
The morning started out with talking to students and professors about the college and what it has to offer. A plus side of Lesley is that they offer a program where you can get your masters and your BA all in five years. Lesley is the first place I've seen this, so I don't know if its other places, but it should be, its a great idea. Anyway, after that all of the students got to attend a class. I would list the classes we were able to attend, but honestly I can't remember all of them.. but I chose art therapy because I thought it would be interesting. It was. We walked into the classroom and sat at a round table with some pieces of colored fabric on the table. You sat at a table that had colors that you liked, and after everyone was sitting you chose a piece of fabric. I ended up with a very bright light blue. Then we had a little time to explain why we chose that color, and draw a picture explaining why we chose the color. I drew a picture with a lot of bright colors swirling together, because I'm a bright and happy person who likes bright and happy colors and bright and happy people. (:
After class we got free lunch! There were fancy sandwiches with chips, fruit, cookies, and hot apple cider (yum). They just set everything out on tables so it was accessible to everyone, which meant that passing students swiped food as well.
Following lunch Peg and I decided to go on a tour of the dorms to see what they were like. The dorm rooms themselves were nice sized for dorms, but there was a lot better housing available than most colleges offer. In addition to normal dorms, Lesley also offers (for the same price) suites and Victorian style houses. The suites are similar to a dorm, but there are two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchenette, and a bathroom in one suite. It was a pretty nice setup, but the best housing was the Victorian houses. They have remodeled the houses to fit more people, so in each house there is a couple common rooms, a kitchen area, and nice sized bedrooms. It was a pretty sweet setup. If I could take Lesley's housing to any college I go to, I would be happy.
After our time at Lesley we decided to go through Harvard Yard, because they are in the same area in Cambridge. Harvard Yard was fun to walk through, and it's true, there are a lot of bricks. All of the buildings except one is made of brick. It was really pretty actually. Peg and I jumped on a student led historical tour of Harvard, and heard about the history behind some of the buildings.
After Harvard Yard we called it a day.
Lesley didn't really grab me, I think because I'm not really interested in what they have to offer academically. I'm actually not sure exactly what it was that I didn't like, because they seem to offer a lot of support and have good programs, but it just didn't really click. Their facilities are really nice though, they have nice buildings and as previously stated, great housing. Just not the college for me.
