Groton State Park

Carol and I got a bit of a late start yesterday, but we still managed to get out and about on the holiday. We loaded up the bikes and headed to Groton State Park. Groton StatePark is really close to where Carol lives, and makes a great place to spend theday. We started off by hiking up a short climb (0.2mi) to a nice lookout over the area. You could see the lakes and mountains, and even Camel’s Hump in the distance. Still can’t believe I climbed that!
So we walked back downto the car, took the bikes off, and headed down the railway bed. This portion of railway bed was much better kept than the one we were on before, but was still dirt and not paved. I’m not sure how far we biked, but it was a good five miles or so before we headed back. When we stopped to turn around we were atone of the lakes and decided that was a good place for lunch (cheese sandwiches). We walked out on a peninsula in the lake and had our lunch. Upon returning from our bike ride it was about 5 o’clock and we decided to jump in one of the lakes before going home for supper. The lake was a tad chilly, but really nice, and we even saw two loons while swimming. It was a nice relaxing day. (:

  1. The water looks so clean ~ i'm so used to the muddy midwest, i've almost forgotten what clean clear streams and lakes look like. did you say you saw two loons? or that two loons went swimming... i won't even ask if you remembered swim suits :)
