Haircuts, Alarms, and Musicals

Yesterday was an intense day.
The day started out slow, with noon appointments for haircuts. We went to a former student of Ruth's, and she did a great time, with reasonable prices. We both just got trims.
With our new hairdos, we headed into the city.
Our first stop was the Museum of Art and Design. It wasn't too big, but had some really interesting pieces. There was an exhibit on Doris Duke, a wealthy woman (Duke University) who collected art in her gigantic house in Honolulu, Hawaii. Ruth and I decided that we could both live in her bathroom, it was that large. There were a couple more exhibits, mainly featuring modern Native American art/artists. There were some beautiful pieces. We travelled down the museum by stair because the line for the elevators was way long. On the entrance to the stairwell on the third floor there was a sign that said no second story access. Since it was almost time for us to go anyway, we decided that we would just go down the stairs to the first floor and skip the second. Bad idea. Half way down to the second floor, there was a very high pitched screech that lasted probably fifteen seconds. It was piercingly loud. Of course we immediately ran back up to the second floor.. nobody came after us though. You'd think they would mark that a little better. The sign never said do not enter or no thru access or anything like that, we just thought the door to the second floor would be locked or something, not that our ears were going to be ringing from obnoxiously loud sirens.
Needless to say, we took the elevator down to the first floor.
We then walked to supper at a very nice Italian place and met a few of Ruth's friends. Supper was great (I had ravioli and a chocolate lava cake for dessert.... not exactly diet friendly, but who cares, it was delicious) and great company as well. Ruth's friends are very easy to get along with. After supper Ruth, Marlene, John, and I went to go see "Marry Me a Little", while Regina and Pedro saw "Once". Marry me a Little was fantastic! It was a musical that used a bunch of Steven Soundheim's songs that were cut from musicals because of length or that didn't fit in or whatnot, and made them into one musical. It was very clever. There were only two actors, a man and a woman, and a pianist in the background. There was also no dialogue, just one song after each other. You could tell that both characters were single and looking for love, and were in very emotional states. The stage was set as an apartment, but you soon found out that the girl lived above the boy in the complex. The interesting thing was that you as the audience could see both of them, but they could not see each other. So if one person was on the bed, then the other was at the table, and so on and so forth.
I don't want to give away tooo much in case anyone has the chance to see it, but I would recommend it, I thought is was great.
(:
