Museum of Science

Alright, starting with yesterday.
Yesterday Paul and Peg had a meeting to attend, but dropped me off at the mall on their way. Ok, I know this won't help anyone reading that isn't from Central Illinois, but for those of you at home, take the Peoria mall and add on the Bloomington mall and you have the size of this one. It was huge. I spent most of the time looking through the Apple store, and ended up with a case for my new macbook scheduled to arrive tomorrow, whooooo! I'm not sure what else to say about the mall... it was a mall. Nothing special, but pretty big.
So after the meeting was over, Peg and Paul picked me up and we headed back home, but before we made it back to the house, we stopped to pick up some veggies. Paul and Peg support a farm, and in return get fresh veggies every week. We came home loaded down with potatoes, peppers, eggplant, carrots, and various others. We didn't actually go to the farm, instead they set up a tent outside a bakery as a more convenient pick up spot.
Armed with our veg we came home, and Paul left to go play tennis, while Peg and I went to the movies. The closest movie theater to the house is in Lexington, and its one of the old fashioned theaters with as far as I could tell two small showing rooms. The chairs weren't uncomfortable, but they weren't comfortable either. Anyways, we saw 'Beasts of the Southern Wild'. Its about a six year old girl who lives with her father in an area that gets flooded by melting icecaps, and how she deals with the challenges thrown at her. I thought it was pretty good.

Today, I was on my own again, and decided to go to the Museum of Science. This morning Peg was nice enough to drop me off at the train station on the way to work. So I hopped on the train and rode into the city. The Museum of Science is really close to the station, so I didn't have to walk far to get to my destination. Armed with a membership card, thanks to Peg and Paul, I got into the museum for free and spent a few hours exploring. So far on the museum list the Museum of Science ranks way above the aquarium and the contemporary art museum. It had a variety of different things to explore, from space, to sea, to dinosaurs. I personally prefer the space and sea to the dinosaurs, but it was all fun. They also had a few things on optical illusions and light and various other small exhibits. It was fun.

The Museum of Science is right along the Charles River, and the day was BEAUTIFUL, so I decided to walk for a while. Along the river is a nice park type area for walking and running, that I stayed on most of the time. It was nice in the middle of all the hubbub. That's one thing I've noticed about Boston, there are a good amount of parks to escape to when the city gets too hectic.

So after a good walk, Peg told me to check out the CambridgeSide Galleria. The Galleria is another mall, but had a little different feel to it, I think because its in an older building. By then I was getting rather hungry, so I stopped for a late lunch in the food court, and as I was waiting on my Stomboli (some sandwich type thing that I got at a pizza place... it was pretty good too, chicken, cheese, spices, and marinara sauce) a late thirties German tourist asked me if I wanted to go to the bars with him tonight. I promptly refused, paid for my food and fled the area. It was kind of humorous. So after checking out the shops I ended up with a clearance item from Old Navy: a very light hoodie. I brought a heavy running hoodie with me, but its hard to carry with me when I'm out, and I like to have something in case it gets chilly. For the price, I think I did a pretty good job, even though I pride myself in being able to shop without buying things. Oh well, I'm happy with my purchase; I know I'll get good usage out of it.
After my shopping spree was over, I had another pleasant walk back to the station and made my way back home.
I think I may head back sometime and check out the planetarium, and I didn't realize that I was right by MIT today and didn't check it out, so I'll have to do that as well. (:
