The Biltmore Estate

The Biltmore Estate is HUGE!
It's an 8,000 acre estate in the mountains of Ashville, NC.
The house has 4 acres of floor space. 4 acres.
It took us a few hours to look through the house, or at least the parts they let us see. All of the furniture and decor and paintings are amazing.... and I don't even want to think about how much they cost.
Pictures weren't allowed in the interior of the house, so the ones below are stolen from a great resource called the internet.

Love the view of the mountains.

So, after exploring the house for a few hours we grabbed a bite to eat and went out to the gardens. The gardens are nice, but that wasn't the interesting thing. The interesting thing is that we ran into a couple of relatives of ours, Kevin and Pam from Florida. Their mother is cousins with Ruth and my dad, and it happens that she is currently visiting with Ruth's mom in Seattle. So Kevin's mom and Ruth's mom were talking over breakfast, and one of them mentioned that their child was at the Biltmore, and the other then mentioned that their child was at the Biltmore... so of course we get called and told to meet up with each other, so we did! We met Kevin and Pam in the gardens at The Biltmore, not previously knowing that either party was going to be there. Its a small world after all.

We explored the gardens a bit, and went through a small museum about the Vanderbilts that was a mile or so from the actual house but still on the grounds, before finishing the drive to Atlanta.
